COPY. To BJ from Bt. {Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} 27th January 1926. Squeaking of F. {Mr Friese} W. B. This matter brought forward in St's memo. attached is, I think, rather urgent. My experience is that the "cures" at present recommended by W. (graphite dressing and rebedding of liners) are only effective for a very short time, and are inclined to spoil efficiency of the brake meanwhile. One would like to know if the device fitted so successfully to the back wheel brakes of 20 HP. could be employed on F.W.B. drums. (Sgd.) Bt. {Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} --- Bt. {Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} for H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} St2/ED {J. L. Edwards} /27.1.26. I should like to call attention to the tendency which exists for the front brakes of F.W.B. cars to squeak. This matter has often been mentioned to me by drivers and the 71-SG {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} which I am using also suffers from it. While driving in the country, a little severe application of the brakes will generally overcome the defect, but in London where the use of brakes is constant and at the same time light, the matter is much aggravated. I have been using 71-SG {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} in London for a week and the condition mentioned has become very marked, the brakes at times screeching enough to attract people's attention. Judging by the other F.W.B. Rolls-Royce cars which I hear doing the same thing around me, 71-SG {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is evidently not exceptional. I formed the impression that this squeaking is distinctly more marked and more general than it was in the case of the 20 HP. car before the device was introduced to correct it. St. {Capt. P. R.
