FRANK B. HALFORD, F.R.Ae.S. DESIGNER OF AERO AND AUTOMOBILE ENGINES. Telephone Nos.: Gerrard 1217. Gerrard 1218. My Ref. FBH/EM. Your Ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 8 & 9 GOLDEN SQUARE, LONDON, W.1. 25th January 1937. 1104 ? W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Experimental Department, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Robotham, Many thanks for your letter of the 21st instant. I am wondering what advertisement you have seen in "Automotive Industries" which indicated to you that we were using RR.56 rods running directly on the crankshaft, as we are definitely not doing this, either at Napiers or de Havillands. Will you let me know which issue of "Automotive Industries" this advertisement was in? You are probably aware of the fact that Junkers have gone to a light alloy for their Diesel big ends, and we are getting particulars of the alloy they use, and their experience to date. Apart from the Junkers, we have fitted no light alloy bearings, either conn: rod or mains, at Stag Lane or Acton. However, if I can get the Junkers' story up to date, it might still be worth while our having a chat on the subject. Yours sincerely, Frank. B. Halford | ||
