| x7655 Expl. Office, Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. 22nd April, 1929. Mr. G.W.Hancock, Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}: from EFC. x7625 RE STARTER MOTOR. It appears from the first paragraph of your report of the 19th inst. that the reason for incorrect action of the starter motor may be a very much too early contact of the armature operated contact due to the distortion of the ebonite fixed contact support. Such distortion has occurred in one or two instances. We have already here sometime ago emphasized the point that we should have these supports as bakelite mouldings as soon as possible and now we hope to have one or two within the next few days. You say that the motor is mechanically O.K. on the bench. The cause of the crashing you describe would be either - (1) Armature operated contact being made far too early in the armature stroke. (2) The fixed contact has become earthed. or what seems to be another likely possibility is that (3) The two wires to the teazer and switch terminals have got interchanged. Any of these three should be readily discovered and then we should like to hear from you again as to which, if any, was the reason of the fault. EFC. EFC. | ||
