P.II. IMPROVED LUGGAGE GRID & REAR APRON.

Hsl/ADL16-31. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has asked us to reply to your Memo.

He saw the experimental car when it called here on the 3rd instant and approved of the new type luggage grid.

The same day we wrote By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} advising him of Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s approval and telling him that such grids should be fitted to the 20/25 and 40/50 chassis to be exhibited at Paris and Olympia except such chassis as will be mounted with bodies of the close-coupled type having permanent trunks at the rear, such as 40/50 Continental Touring chassis.

As regards the back apron, the position is that Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} did not intend that, at present at any rate, we should give away the back apron. He asked to see a sample of that to drawing N.Sch:1464 so as to satisfy himself that it was attractive in appearance with the idea of providing coachbuilders with a copy of the drawing to indicate an apron for them to make up which is known to be good looking.

When we wrote BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} on the 3rd instant concerning the luggage grid we mentioned the position as regards the apron but criticised the louvres therein because we thought them too open, allowing one to see chassis parts through them. We also criticised the appearance of the extended silencer snout. The fact that this was not square with the back end of the chassis was we thought a disadvantage. Also, we hoped it would be better finished on production chassis, whilst verbally to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} we queried whether it need extend quite so far to the rear.

We much regret that we omitted to send you a copy of our Memo. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}
