Mr Wormald's report stated that the Packard Co. evidently used case-hardening nickel steel for all their gears, consequently they are able to do away with the high heat necessary to restore the core prior to the low heat for hardening. Mr Wormald said he would very much like to try the carburizing material they used, and it was suggested that we should order 5 cwts. of the special carburizing material used by the Packard Co. The Committee also suggested that we made enquiries regarding refrigerator plant. +1474 74th Meeting 14th Nov. 1911 Re Heat Treatment of Nickel steel bolts. Mr Wormald informed the Committee that he had found it much more satisfactory to heat treat nickel steel bolts, and asked that instructions should be given for this to be done to all bolts of this material.
