TYRE NOISES. X4050 X987

With reference to CWB22/GM25.11.27. We have recently obtained a set of the latest pattern Michelin tyres. These are the type with the sunken pattern tread. We find that these tyres are many times worse than either the traction or the buttress pattern Dunlop for causing vibrations throughout the chassis. For tyre noise, they may be slightly better than the Dunlop; as a non-skid, they are not as good.

We assume that the Michelin tyres which were tried on Mr. Hartridges car (62-LF) were the old pattern Michelin tread.

We have received the tyres which you sent off 62-LF. We agree they cause vibration and noise but they are nothing like as bad as Michelin tyres mentioned above.

We are expecting shortly some Goodrich tyres.

We have taken up the question of tyre noise so many times with Dunlops that we think it is useless approaching them again until we can shew them tyres which are free from this fault and do not have other objectionable features.

Another point is, the tyres we are objecting to namely - the traction tread, are not their std. pattern. Tests we have made shew the buttress pattern tyres are slightly better for this particular fault.
