To B.V. Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X1166 E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.11.11.35. Bowering PHANTOM III. Hydraulic Jacks. In a few days from now we expect to receive from Messrs.Donald Sessions & Co. Ltd. a set of front and rear rams for Phantom III. Although it is intended eventually to operate these by means of a Sessions' Engine Pump we wish to progress with the testingof the rams by using a Jackall hand pump of the latest pattern, in which the liquid reservoir is on the dashboard. On Lec 4798 herewith we show an arrangement drawing of a pump made by scaling a model, and Lec 4799 also herewith, we show a pump mounted on the near side frame side member under the chassis floor boards. For the purposes of this experiment we show a trap door in the sheet metal floor boards, attached at its rear edge by a brass piano hinge. It is intended that the flap should be held down by the carpets only. We show the re-arrangement of the piping in the vicinity of the pump due to the introduction of this new feature, but it is not proposed at this stage to design the complete layout of the piping from the pump to the rams. On Lec 4794 herewith we show the liquid reservoir on the dash board. As eventually this will be made by Messrs.Donald Sessions & Co. we have sent a print to them for their criticisms. Since a tank will be required for fitting up the scheme with a Jackall pump in the place of the engine pump, we are issuing this drawing to enable a tank to be made up here. For the Jackall pump a .312" diameter pipe is required and this may have an olive joint as drawn. The question of what type of joint shall be used finally in conjunction with the Sessions' engine pump is a matter still under discussion, and in this latter case the pipe diameter will be .250". We are sending to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} with his copy of this memo. advance prints of LeC4794, LeC4798 and LeC4799, and we are sending across to him a complete Jackall pump and handle.
