Dear Mr. Robotham, I thank you for your letter of the 23rd inst. and I am very pleased to hear Sir Henry's decision. The S.U. Carburetter, with the exception of erratic idling which is generally due to too long and large diameter induction pipe, is just as easy and runs just as flexibly with a supercharger as on a standard model, and it gives a perfectly clean mixture over the whole range of speeds, with a petrol consumption very little heavier than normal. No special care must be taken in fitting in fact on the whole it is easier to obtain results than without a supercharger owing to the help to distribution which the supercharger gives. The carburetter, of course, has to be large and I would suggest an 1 5/8" Carburetter for your 1 3/4 litre engine, and a 2" or 1 3/4" on the 2 1/2 litre engine. Actual tests, of course, will determine the necessary size. I am interested to hear about the Petrolift. We do not fit a plate filter at the moment chiefly owing to the fact that our standard job is for Cowley and cost is a very big consideration. A plate filter, however, could very easily be incorporated. Confidentially we are experimenting with a modified edition of the pump which dispenses with the top | ||
