McKechnie - Sales}20.12.35. 21-G-IV - Marles Steering. The steering box of this car is being sprung open at the centre joint when under load. The fitting of the extra bolt on the top side of the joint has'nt materially strengthened it. The long 1/4 bolts are apparently stretching at the four corners. The joint front and rear of the box is definitely weak, oil can be seen being squeezed out as the steering is turned. We should recommend the box being strengthened by having two more bolts holding the joint front and rear, the bolts to be 3/16". The long 1/4 bolts should be increased to 5/16, to prevent any stretching taking place. We notice that the American boxes have no joint. The building up of the shafts etc. being threaded through the inspection hole. Ha/G.W.Hancock. | ||
