SFT.{Mr Swift} c. EY. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4222 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/H23.1.24. 20-HP. Engine Spring Drive Fault. With reference to my conversation with you yesterday, we have for some time been troubled with engine noises etc. caused by the spring drive, and we feel that the general cause of this trouble has been that the springs of the spring drive have been binding against the back plates and have not been able to work freely. We have felt for sometime that the spring drive has not been very satisfactory, but we have now been able to illustrate to your inspector this defect, and according to drawing there is a specified clearance at this point. I shall be glad if you will have the spring drive job thoroughly inspected and arrangements made whereby no spring drives can be made or fixed on to engines unless satisfactory in this respect and in others which you also feel may be prevalent. Also please let me know what you propose to do in regard to spring drives which are already on cars on test and which, as explained, are giving trouble in this respect. I also feel that we should have instructions and order number from you to deal with cars in service which may develop or now have this trouble. I shall be glad if you will give this matter your urgent attention, as it is now holding up our final testing and output of cars. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
