- 3 - Clutch Trunnion Ball Race. All our Clutch Trunnion Ball Races became noisy after a negligible mileage. This trouble has been cured mainly by elongating the holes in the Ball Race Cage by .030" and setting the clutch pedal lower from the floor board, so that at high speeds the pedal does not ride on the floor board, thus exerting a constant load on the trunnion ball race. Propeller Shaft. All the Hardy Spicer Propeller Shafts on our cars developed vibrations after approximately 3,000 miles and the only temporary cure we knew of at the moment is to re balance the Shafts with a Jubilee Clip. This method is most unsatisfactory, and some work will have to be done on development of Propeller Shafts before we can consider them a Production proposition. I would like to emphasise that this Propeller Shaft trouble is not just an isolated case, but without exception every shaft that we have yet fitted has given trouble after negligible mileage. Rattles in Transmission. The setting of the clutch plate friction disc from 6-10 lbs.ft. to 17-27 lbs.ft appears to have cured our troubles. S U S P E N S I O N. Dampers. The original front shock dampers proved unsatisfactory. This was due mainly to dirt in the dampers and (a) Blocking up the leak slot, thus increasing the poundage of the Damper, or (b) A large amount of dirt would lift the valve completely off its seat, thus reducing the poundage. We have been able to complete the manufacture of two sets of the new Dual Piston type of front damper, with much larger valves, and they have been fitted to 12.B.V. and Mr. Breedon's car. Unfortunately Mr. Breedon has now laid up his vehicle, but the pair on 12.B.V. have run 36,200 miles, and have been satisfactory throughout this mileage. We would like to complete two or three more sets and fit them to our cars as soon as possible to obtain more mileage. -continued- | ||
