X.3588 Re "Goshawk" Exhaust System. --------------------------- We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 685 shewing the proposed arrangement of the exhaust system on Goshawk. We also send a print of "N" Scheme 686 and 684 shewing the proposed exhaust silencer support, and inlet and outlet pipes. These are based on the existing 40/50, and modified where the construction of the two cars differs. The support, for instance, comes on a curved part of the cross member, as shewn on "N" Scheme 684, and the swan neck pipe appears to require to be so long that we suggest a support for it, as also shewn on "N" Scheme 684. On "N" Scheme 686 the outlet is at the side and sloping downwards slightly, to miss the axle ties, and the spring pivot support. Also, the inlet pipe has been placed in the centre of the silencer instead of offset, as in the 40/50, as there does not appear to be a necessity to offset it, the inlet pipe being higher up than in the case of the 40/50. In order to run the exhaust pipe straight back, we have bent the forward end a little more inwards, and send a fresh print of "N" Scheme 683 shewing this modification. It may perhaps be thought that this arrangement with slight modification, would also do for the "Kite". We are sending a further scheme in the course of a day or two.
