RE GOSHAWK I - CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL GEAR.
We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 751 shewing the proposed pedals made out of oval tubing, similar to a bicycle fork. We have also shewn the clutch pedal with a push rod operating the clutch shaft from on top.
The principal difficulty has been to find a good means of attaching the lugs and end pieces to the pedal tubes.
On Fig I - the clutch pedal, we shew a forging with an oval hole, which we expect would have to be broached.
The lower boss is put in like a bicycle fork crown.
It will be seen that the crankpin method of operating the push rod puts a considerable amount of torsion on the pedal, and we have accordingly suggested in Fig 2 that a stirrup might be used, with a sheet metal attachment to the pedal tube, so as to avoid the torsion, and perhaps at the same time, to make the lug attachment easier.
On Fig 3 a similar attachment is shewn for the brake pull rod, another method of making the actual attachment to the oval tube being shewn on Fig 4.
On Fig 5 another sheet metal construction is shewn, which appeared to us to be cheap and at the same time to take the pull in rather a better way. While on Fig 6 an adaptation of this same arrangement is shewn for the brake pedal.
