DAL2/CB10-2-21. Contd. We have ascertained that in the existing pedals on Goshawk 1 practically all the deflection occurs in the shank of the long foot pedals. They are, of course, in aluminium bronze, which is more flexible than steel. We have increased the section on "N" Scheme 751 so as to make these pedals considerably less flexible in any car. We are also sending a print of "N" Scheme 737 with the drop forged pedals - which we had made before receiving your instructions to construct out of oval tubing - in case you might wish to consider the possibility of using oval section forged pedals, which we think might be constructed to give as little deflection with the underneath position of the pull rod as is possible with the overhead rod position, largely because the torsion is avoided.
