-22g- Contd. engine as easily as normally, any attempt to get a start from the battery must at once be abandoned, or otherwise permanent damage to the battery may result. (C) BATTERY OUT OF USE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OR DESPATCHED A SHORT DISTANCE. If the battery at any time is required to be put out of use for a short period, i.e. a period of from, say, 2 to 6 months, store the battery in a fully charged condition in a cool, dark place, and give it a freshening charge at least once a month until all plates gas freely, topping up with distilled water if necessary. Railway Companies do not accept for shipment batteries containing acid, at their own risk, therefore, if the battery is to be despatched by rail any distance within the British Isles, empty the electrolyte out of the battery when in a fully charged condition and replace by distilled water. When putting the battery back into use, empty out the water, replace with acid of 1250 density and place battery on charge until all plates again gas freely. The battery can then be put back into use. (D) BATTERY OUT OF USE FOR A LONG PERIOD, OR DESPATCHED A LONG DISTANCE. To place a battery out of commission for any period in excess of six months, the best procedure is as follows:- Contd. H.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-1-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. | ||
