YOUR REF

.1258.

20th June, 1939.

For the attention of W.A.Robotham Esq.
Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Sirs,

We recently had an interview with Mr. Taylor of the Alta Car & Engineering Co. Ltd., but we do not appear to have forwarded you a copy of his letter which we received, dated June 6th. A copy is enclosed herewith from which you will see their attitude is that they expect something should the patent on this special piston go through successfully.

In my travels round the country I find that several people seem to have done the same sort of thing. In one case W.O.Bentley of Lagonda showed me a piston and head, and whilst the hump on the piston was not as high as that on the pistons you have made, it certainly conformed to the same general principle.

The second application was by Mr. Milne of Dennis Bros., Guildford, and they have quite a large number of vehicles on the road which were treated in this manner some years ago.

If these people can substantiate their claims, and I must say it looks as though there is ample evidence in this direction, then we shall have some difficulty in getting this patent through, and I thought I would point out these various prior applications as you may like to take up the matter with both Mr. Bentley and Mr. Milne, and ascertain the exact nature of their prior claim to this particular type of piston.

Yours faithfully,
For WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LIMITED,
F.{Mr Friese} Blackith
Technical Manager.
