WEAR OF DYNAMO BRUSHES.

As apparently some of our troubles can be directly traced to abnormal brush wear, such for instance as that quoted in EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}9/H21023 where the brushes wore out in not more than 2000 miles, i certainly think the right attitude to adopt is to deal with the particular car and send a dynamo to replace the existing one, bringing his present dynamo back to our Works and handing it over to my department for examination.

It appears to me that when we get a very strongly marked case like the one which has only run for 2000 miles and yet worn out the brushes, it should provide us with clear evidence as to the cause, and further it is well worth while sending someone with a dynamo with which we are entirely satisfied, to the customer, replacing the existing dynamo and utilising the returned dynamo experimentally to get down to what is the cause of the wear - possibly it may be due to the micas not being cleared away sufficiently - in any case an actual dynamo giving the trouble in the customers hands is what is seriously needed at the moment.

Would you kindly arrange to have one, or both of the dynamos under discussion, returned under the above arrangement, the replacement should be made against Works policy number until we know exactly what account the fault should be charged to.

In the meantime we should replace the dynamo brushes free of charge for the present against an A.T.D. number.
