EFC. C. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X4383 BY7-P15.10.23. DYNAMO: 20HP CHASSIS. 56/S/3. X.4183 X4383 COL. HEYWOOD. I am handing you herewith Dynamo number 166, returned from the above customers car, owing to it having melted out the solder on the Commutator connections. I would suggest that the Dynamo in question is interesting from the point of view of representing a condition of brush gear etc., which has actually caused trouble. I therefore propose that you should fit another Armature to this machine and run it under normal conditions to check whether the current output with the brushes in their present position is such as likely to cause the solder to melt out of the Armature. There is no need to run it so long as to actually spoil a new Armature, but I certainly think that we should make a test along the lines I suggest, after carefully examining and noting the bedding of the brushes to see precisely what output the machine would give in this condition - if its output is normal then the explanation points to a connection to the Battery being loose.
