TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} COPY TO SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SECRET. X5260 EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/19.3.31. RE BONNET RADIATOR & DASH JAPAN III. X. 5260. X. 5250. X. 5500. I went to London yesterday to see the mock-up of the Japan II. bonnet, radiator and dash on a standard 20/25 HP. chassis. On examination it was found that the width of the bonnet at the back was approx. one inch to great. On our N.Sch. 3208. we give the width of the bonnet over the side plates at the back as 36 ins. It would appear as though an error has been made by taking this dimension to be the width at the back of the dashboard. The bonnet overhangs the dashboard by 2.000 ins. As this is a serious discrepancy we have had the mock-up taken down and sales are returning it to you for correction. It was also found that the top tank of the radiator was approx. .275 ins. too high, which is somewhat serious in as much as there is only .375 ins. of rise on the side hinge. We suggest that, in spite of the fact that the back of the bonnet being an inch wider than intended, I thought that the appearance was very good, and much better than 18.G.IV.
