1180 c. By/Ald.{F. Allwood - Experimental Design} Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}9/MH.{M. Huckerby} 14th. June, 1939. Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. Your Ref: WES/PW. For the attention of W.E.Shilton, Esq. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of 12th. inst. and note that you are returning our axle. The drums you may have as long as you like, the whole material is scrap as far as we are concerned. We enclose four prints EXS.1761/63/72/73. Will you please supply three samples of each sort. An official order will be sent in a week or so. These discs are for a crankshaft damper. The discs are required to have long life, a bakelized fabric should be satisfactory in this respect. We hope the fabric can be formed and glued like a clutch disc, thus keeping the price low. It is desired that the "static" coefficient of friction should not be higher than the "slipping" one, therefore one set of discs is asked for waxed (similar to the spring interleaving you made for us) as Mr. Longley has said that once a material is dipped in wax, the effect of this never completely disappears. "/u" for this damper need not be high, the load can be varied to compensate. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
