EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}23/JH.

28th June, 1938.

Messrs. Dennis Bros Ltd.,
Guildford,
Surrey.

For the attention of Mr. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Milne.

Dear Sirs,

With reference to the writer visit to your Works yesterday, may we thank you for the courtesy extended to him, and for the interesting things shown to him.

We confirm that everything is in order for Messrs. Wellworthy to supply you with main bearings but would like you to confirm that you intend using these with a crankshaft having a hardness of 550 - 600 as used in conjunction with the bearings already tested.

As mentioned verbally to you yesterday we shall supply you with AC.9 alloy and not AC.6 as used previously by you, in this connection you need have no fear that the new alloy is in any way inferior to that already tested by you, as we have already standardised AC.9 alloy for our own bearings, both for connecting rods and main bearings.

In connection with your tests on main bearings we think you will be amply repaid by the results obtained if you arrange to centrifugally clean the oil continuously as the engine is running. From our own experience we cannot help but stress the importance of efficient filtering and in this direction also stress the value of filters of the by-pass type, the best type of filter we know at the moment is the American filter made by "General Filters" this is now made in this country by -

British Filters Ltd.,
Aircraft House,
Market Harborough.
