X46175 EPC7/T. 1st January, 1929. The Chloride Elec. Co.Ltd., Clifton Junction, Nr. Manchester. X46622 Dear Sirs, Re Special Exide Battery with alternate cells with triangular grid bars with their apices facing inwards and outwards respectively. We think you will find from your records that we ordered from you in April 1925 one battery arranged as above of each of our 40/50 and 20 H.P. types. The 40/50 type battery, although it has done 13,787 miles on cars and been on our intensive life test for 16 months, the separate cells thereof have not yet failed in any respect. It is of the 20 H.P. battery which we speak at the moment. A cell of this battery failed in October last and attached you will find copy of the undersigned's assistant's report JC.132 concerning this cell. A second cell has now failed (December) and attached you will also find a copy of the report JC.147 regarding this other cell. Of the four remaining cells, three originally adjacent cells are now working together as a 6-volt battery and one cell is working separately satisfactorily. We do not know whether at this stage an inspection of the elements of these cells would be of any advantage to you, but if you are of that opinion we could no doubt arrange to open up the three cells of the 6-volt unit in the presence of your Mr. McKinnon or other representative at some time suitable to us both. There does not appear to be any hurry in this matter as the cells do not at present show signs of failure, and perhaps it can be arranged when it again becomes necessary for Mr. McKinnon to visit us for some other purpose.
