To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} c. Wcr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rz. X3860 EFC2/T8.6.26. MACONITE INSULATED H.T. CABLES FOR CHASSIS. X86 Further to our EFC1/T10.5.26, we have now one 40/50 and one 20 HP. chassis fitted completely with H.T. cable with this insulation, and we have two further chassis, 8-EX and 11-CIII fitted with alternate wignition wires of Maconites and standard H.T. cable, thus we shall in time gain an impression of the relative merits of the two under equal conditions and prove as to whether one or the other is really superior. In the meanwhile further H.T. breakdown experiments have been made, particularly from the point of view of the tendency to crack in the neighbourhood of the earthed conductor due to the formation of ozone, and the further results are contained in my assistant's report WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}93 herewith, from which it will be seen that under the particular conditions of the tests made, the Maconites has behaved considerably better than the standard. We are also making comparative exposure tests (sunlight and weather) of the two types of cable with insulation of the two types. WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}93 herewith. EFC. | ||
