-14- This method of charging is somewhat uneconomical but we recommend its use where conditions of running are such that a greater demand is made on the battery than can be replaced by the dynamo. Care should be taken that the battery is in direct connection with that main which shows the least potential to earth and in connection through lamps with the other main at higher potential, otherwise the whole body of the chassis may be raised to a high potential in relation to earth. In the absence of the necessary experience, it may be advisable to put this in other hands or to remove the battery from the chassis for the extra charge. Where a direct current supply is available in a private garage, we recommend in any case that it be made a rule to always leave the battery on charge at a very slow rate ( less than ¼ ampere) when the car is in the garage, as such a procedure will keep the battery in thorough condition. | ||
