USE OF STARTER.

Careless use of the starter will reduce the life of the battery. Careful use of the starter will make very little difference in its life as compared with the more ordinary lighting demands. If the battery is known to be in good condition and well up in its state of charge the starter may be used for several times in immediate succession with the certain knowledge that the battery is not being appreciably injured, and will turn the engine easily. If at any time the starter appears sluggish in its action and such sluggishness is traceable to the battery, no attempt should be made to use the starter until the battery has had a thorough charge up again to the gasing condition.
