7th. October 1938.

We regret, as mentioned above, that it is not possible at the moment to indicate the chassis numbers of the cars with the first type of belt (some of which are in use in U.S.A.) but will let you have this information if you require it, when available.

In the event of a customer requirring a replacement belt, we suggest that your American Co. ascertain

(1) If fan is four blade - if so belt to EB.221 will be required.

(2) If fan is five blade - if so, whether belt fitted is marked "British Goodrich Mould No.242", or "Ferogrip" - if the former a belt to the dimensions set out above will be required, if the latter, a belt to E.89343 is used.

We are afraid that it is not possible to simplify this information owing to the three types of belt in use.

With regard to the two cars whose chassis numbers you quoted, these are Phantom II cars and the correct belt is as shown on E.81245 (print attached). We trust that this completes the required information.

We shall carry out tests on the sample belts you sent us and will acquaint you with the results in due course.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
