328' January 19th.1938 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}l/AP. F.O.Hickling Esq., Messrs. Ransome & Marles, Ltd., NEWARK-ON-TRENT. Dear Hickling, We have recently ordered bearings for the Phantom gearbox consisting, as you know, of two double row bearings and two single row angular contact bearings. We have found that any roughness in these latter two bearings is unpleasantly audible in the car. At present they are ordinary journal bearings and give us a lot of trouble necessitating sometimes dismantling a gearbox to fit new ones. I am letting you know this in the hopes that we may both be saved a lot of bother due to the inspection at your end being 101% and no doubtful ones reaching us. I must apologise for not having yet got in touch with Wade, but I have not been able to get away from the Works. Many thanks for the Calendar, Yours sincerely, | ||
