Propellor Shaft Spindle Test.

Comparison between Phantom III R.R. (G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 82089) and Bentley Hardy Spicer Shaft.

With the shaft suspended by its rear axle coupling, a load was applied to the sliding-gearbox-coupling, to which a torque arm was also attached.

The frictional torque in relation to the thrust load of one of each of the above types of shaft - both shafts were new - was ascertained. From the results, shown on the attached chart, the R.R. shaft proved to be better than the Hardy Spicer shaft.

Incidentally, a rough check was taken of the Hardy Spicer shaft off B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, before refitting to the chassis, the torque of 38 lbs/ft. at 120 lbs. thrust load being the same as for the new shaft.
