Borg & Beck Clutches.

Mr. Barker of Borg & Beck was here yesterday and we showed him examples of what we consider bad finish on some of the production clutches. These examples consisted of :-

(1) Eyebolts of varying length. Some projected as much as .150 above the nut and others were a thread below it.

(2) Split pins which did not pass through the centre of the eyebolt.

(3) Slovenly drilling of the balancing holes in the rim of the cover. Few of the holes were truly circular and the burrs had been left on many of them.

(4) On one 11" clutch three of the release fingers were polished and the fourth left dull.

(5) The colour of the anti-rust treatment of the cover varied considerably.

(6) Two of the release fingers were cracked.

(7) The outer diameters of some of the covers were not truly circular and to size.

Mr. Barker agreed that the finish was not as good as it should be, and put some of the blame upon the way we had rushed him for deliveries. He took three of the worst clutches away with him to show his people. They are going to send to us next week one 10" and one 11" clutches for our agreement that we should regard the finish of these as a satisfactory standard.
