Description HALL'S METAL SHELL IN CONNECTING ROD BIG END RUNNING ON THE CRANKPIN. Purpose To give increased life over former whitemetal bearing. Brief Report and Remarks Has run satisfactory endurance of 70 hrs. on test bed, this compares with an average life of the former whitemetal bearings of 25 hrs. before failure. A second engine had run 12 hrs. endurance which was stopped on account of other trouble, revealed big ends in excellent condition. 32-EX is fitted with similar big ends and has run approx. 1,200 miles without trouble. When recommended for Introduction: 1st. in D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Old Parts: Material £1.6.10. Labour £2.7.0. Burden £4.2.3. Total £7.16.1. New Parts: Material £0.18.3. Labour £2.18.11 Burden £5.3.1. Total £9.0.3. Increase in Cost £ 1.0.10d. GRH 12/9/38 Cost of Tools £ 15.15.0d. Production Position and Comments Hall's metal connecting rod bearings were adopted at 2nd. chassis in 'D' series, all whitemetal type bearing blocks in course of manufacture being converted to suit Hall's metal shells. It was originally considered that chassis Factory cost would not be increased by new design, but in practice various additional operations not previously anticipated have been found necessary, with the result that factory cost of chassis is increased by £1.0.10d. In addition it has been necessary to manufacture new tools costing £15.15.0d. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Authorisation to Proceed. Introduce on the 2nd Chassis in D Series.
