Red Lamp Scheme.

This was discussed and it was decided that this device should be used on all occasions when RR. engines are installed in aeroplanes.

It was decided that Lr.{Mr Ellor} be instructed to go and see the appropriate officials of the Air Ministry and tell them that RR. regard this device as an essential accessory to the engine, and to do what is necessary to ensure that the Red Lamp scheme is always fitted to our engines on installation. The necessary fittings will be supplied by RR. with each engine and without extra charge.

Lr.{Mr Ellor} was called in to the conference and was informed of the above resolution.

Evaporative Cooling.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} referred to the many troubles which are being experienced with engines in machines on which evaporative cooling is used. It would appear that it is advisable to withdraw these evaporatively cooled installations and revert to water cooling until such time as we have overcome the difficulties connected therewith, and have got through a type test.

It was decided that Lr.{Mr Ellor} should see the machine builders or whoever it is necessary to see in order to stop using the system for the present and until we have made more progress toward reliability.

Kestrel Cylinder Blocks and Tangmere.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} read Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s memo reference Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}7/T27.4.32 on this subject and a short discussion took place. No action was taken to alter existing arrangements.
