"W" SERIES. - RADIATOR, BONNET AND DASH.

I was more than surprised to find that you told Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that the designs for the radiator, bonnet and dash did not follow West WitteringHenry Royce's home town drawings and also that the same criticism was extended to the shutter control mechanism on the instrument board.

In regard to the bonnet, this followed N.Scheme 1841 slavishly.

In regard to the rivetting, this was shown clearly on N.Scheme 1848.

The shutter Control on the Instrument Board was made to drawing N.Scheme 1967 with which our detail drawings agree absolutely.

The only parts which at all differ from West WitteringHenry Royce's home town drawings and designs were, - the radiator was carried by the same method as that arranged and agreed to for "V" Series.

The only particulars in which the bonnet differed from any existing N.Scheme being that since, as we pointed out to you in our memo BY4/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 29.12.24, we could not incorporate the 45" springs with parallel control on "W" Series, wehad perforce to maintain the longer bonnet which had been agreed to for "V" Series.

Far from this accentuating, as Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 9.7.25. appears to infer, the apparent down-hill tendancy of the side hinge as it runs backwards, it would lessen it. It is obviously the widening of the dashboard and the shortening of the bonnet which would tend to accentuate this effect.

In regard to the radiator itself, we wrote you fully in BY1/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 21.11.24, defining clearly what "V" and "W" Series were to be. To this memo we attached a copy of BY5/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 21.11.24. which conveyed to you the accurate and detailed information which I had issued to my Sectional Chiefs, as to how precisely "V" and "W" Series were respectively to be produced. In this latter memo I clearly pointed out that the "W" Series radiator would be the E.A.C.2. type and not the "V" Series 1" higher.
