- 2 - In view of the foregoing, therefore, we are at a loss to understand why it should be possible for you to tell Hsl that you were expecting the radiator to be "V" Series raised 1", all the more-so when the whole matter has been discussed most fully and thoroughly, and the position outlined and defined. We do our best here to work precisely and accurately to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town instructions. These discussions as to whether we are in a line with West WitteringHenry Royce's home town or not are never raised in regard to E's work, and it certainly seems strange to me every now and again we are told from your Department we have departed from your requirements, and have made variations that you know nothing of. Since we apply the same routine exactly when putting your work in hand and E's work in hand, it goes to show that the differences in the two Departments must lie at your end and not at Derby, as we never from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} get these recriminations which seem to habitually arise between us. We thought that seeing we took the trouble to write you so fully in our memos quoted above, as well as in later ones not referred to, where the same matter has been discussed, it would have been impossible for anyone in your Department to have pleaded ignorance or knowledge of what Derby were actually doing on a vital subject of this nature. We have not overlooked your memos written in response to some of ours, in which you pointed out that you could not take responsibility for certain departures we were compelled to make, but this would not alter the facts that you were aware of them being made, and that we had told you definitely that we had no alternative to the proposals adopted, in view of the fact that no experimental work had been done which would justify us adopting either the 45" spring and parallel control or a modified frame which would have enabled us to shorten the chassis and take a certain amount out of the bonnet length. From the foregoing it should be quite clear that there is not the slightest justification for the suggestion which was put forward that you were anticipating for "W" Series a "V" Series radiator raised 1". This particular proposal has never been put forward by this Department until quite recently, when writing to CJ. we certainly pointed Contd. | ||
