X6112 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY/RD1/W.29-4-31. RE :- IGNITION DISTRIBUTORS. For some time now we have gathered information from various sources that a smaller capacity condenser would have a beneficial effect upon the contact points, and in order to get a straightforward test where the contact points were left entirely alone during 10,000 miles we instructed Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to put on 2-G-2 (Transport Car) an up-to-date ignition distributor and condenser. These were examined at 6,117 miles and now, after completing 10,000 miles, they have been returned to us and the points appear to be in exceptionally good condition. We are assured that they have had no attention whatsoever, and it should be noted that the capacity of the condenser is .240 m.f., as against the standard capacity of .270 to .325 m.f. This result agrees with report EFC3/AD.14-10-30, and we suggest that the question of standardising the lower capacity condenser be considered. Distributor, Condenser and contact points herewith.
