WHEEL ARCH CLEARANCES.

With reference to the rear seats, no doubt the coachbuilders have already seen the possibility of there being no distance or upholstery thickness to speak of between the wheel arch and the end of the seat, and that the wheel arch coming above the seat can be provided for by an elbow rest. This feature should be placed on the coachbuilder's drawing.

We hope that the recent epidemic of tyres rubbing in the wheel arches has not caused an excessive clearance in the wheel arches to be demanded.

It is possible that we may consider spreading the rear wheels somewhat because the front splashers have to be wider than it is necessary to make the rear splashers, so with the short hubs lately introduced the car would give perfectly satisfactory clearance, even if the back axle were an inch or two wider in the tread.

In the Phantom this might be a very considerable benefit to the accommodation on the rear seats.

DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will make a scheme of this suggestion, if it is considered good.
