GOSHAWK 11. V4219.

At the present time no material is on order for any production Goshawk chassis. The material on order is only sufficient to make 6 experimental cars with allowances for replacements and modifications. We suggest that a definite policy should be laid down as regards the ordering of material for production of Goshawk 11. At the present stage it is impossible for the Experimental Dept. to take the responsibility of recommending the ordering of material. We can only recommend after our tests have proved parts or units to be satisfactory. At present the car has not been on test long enough for us to be able to recommend the ordering of material for production. The ordering of material should be done intelligently so that completed parts are finished about the same time. We do not see that there would be any advantage in ordering Side Members for Frames which have very little work to be done on them if, for instance, we are not ordering crankshafts.

The policy as regards when production should start on Goshawk 11. depends upon a number of circumstances. If the works were busy, no material would be ordered until the car had been thoroughly proved. As it is, if the question of the cost of scrap was neglected altogether, one would say that production should start immediately because the works have ample capacity to deal with it. We know, however, that if
