HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Confidential ORIGINAL: DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M1.7.31. 20/25 - SPECIAL TOURING SALOON. X5120. X5770. X5250. Almost at the same time as you approached SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re. the above I did so also, suggesting that we build such a body for the new chassis with dropped radiator at once as an experimental car so that by the time we are delivering the new chassis (Nov. or Dec.) we shall have more or less perfected this model of motorcar, and you would be in a position to lend the car to Sales for demonstration. SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} raised the following objections to immediate action: (1) He does not want to create any more experimental cars which immediately become secondhand and soon lose their newness. (2) You may put on features which are not standard. (3) He does not believe that you could convert the present radiator to the dropped tank variety after we have fitted the coachwork. I said that would be easily done by you, and he pointed out that WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} was saying it could not be done on production. I think both statements are true. They are also afraid it will not sell. This is another case of 26-EX. and I think you had better see what you can do. The surest way to get it would be to persuade R.{Sir Henry Royce} to say he wanted a new car, and to insist on having it. Perhaps you could do this.
