S/W. X4003 To BP. from Py/BLB. c. to OF., AF., M.M., Hg., & Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (Note: BP., OF., AF., Hg. are crossed out) Py/BLB2/AV/D23.11.28. Re: New Type Camshafts for Scout Machines. With reference to D/BP27/OG.22.11.28. The position in regard to supplying and fitting camshafts is explained in BLB1/Av/D12.11.28, paragraph 12 (Notes of Conference at the Works on the 9th inst. with Capt. Forsyth). It was agreed at this Conference that if Hg. would confirm that it would not be necessary for the Ministry to send their engines back to the Works for the purpose of having new camshafts fitted, Capt. Forsyth would put through an order for 10 sets and arrange for them to be fitted by our outside men. We understand that Hg. has written the Ministry on the lines indicated and we are now following up with a view to obtaining a covering contract. Meanwhile, we agree that 4 sets should be put in hand, i.e: 1 for F.XI.S. No. 95 in Saunders Machine; 1 for F.XI.S. No. 37 in the Hawker 'Hornet'; 1 for F.XI.S. No. 5 Westland 'Wizard'; 1 for F.XI.S. No. 31 Fairey 'Firefly 2'. If you will give us delivery dates for each of the above sets we will see about getting an order from the Ministry to cover fitting the camshafts. We would emphasise that our agreement with the Ministry in this connection is dependent entirely on the camshafts being ready in time to avoid delaying the flight trials of these machines, which we understand are due to commence about the 10th prox. Therefore, we should like some information in regard to the probable date of delivery as quickly as possible. Py/BLB. | ||
