To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (3824 E1/M30.4.26. E.16. CYLINDER HEAD. X.3824 X.4098 In connection with the detailing of design leC.2233., it should be understood that the end flanges of the induction pipe should be made so that it will be possible to fit larger external induction pipes. The size we have in mind is 2.125" dia., which will add 12½% to the cross sectional area. With regard to R's remarks in a recent memo. that there should be a reinforcing stud between every pair of cyls. for the head joint we think this can be done but it means removing the camshaft every time it is desired to break the joint. We are taking up this point with R.{Sir Henry Royce} as soon as he returns, and will let you know what should be done. In the meantime we have telegraphed you as per attached confirmation for a Blueprint of the reinforcement shcemed for the ends of the head joint. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
