S/W. B/W Hrv. --> C. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} URGENT. Re- Tests in France - Cadillac and 21-0-4. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has left it to me to arrange for representatives of our four principal Coachbuilders to go over to France as I did and have the opportunity of riding in the Cadillac and 21-0-4 and seeing at first hand the difference in the two cars. I believe that in the ordinary course of events these two cars are returning to England in the near future. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is very anxious that they should not return until the Coachbuilders have had this opportunity. Would you please let me know when it would fit in with your plans for these cars to journey to Boulogne to meet the boat that gets in there about 1 o'clock and give the necessary demonstrations. We are very anxious not to draw the attention of the Coachbuilders' representatives too much to the suspension of the Cadillac, otherwise they would merely turn round and say that if the R-R chassis were similar to the Cadillac and similarly sprung their body would be as good as that on the Cadillac, so that the question of springing, so far as they are concerned, doesnot arise so much in connection with this visit as for them to see the effect of French roads on English coachwork as compared with a good American example. Would you please let me know when you would like me to arrange for their visit, and whether you think somebody should be present other than the drivers to emphasize the points we complain of in connection with English coachwork as exemplified on 21-0-4.
