Dear Sirs,
Replying to your letter of the 8th inst. regarding the queries concerning the possibility of using our standard fibre washers on the new layout of the pair of H.4. carburetters, the only change that has been made in our fibre washers is that about three years ago a very hard type of fibre washer which we were using in some places, and also a rather soft type of orange coloured fibre washer, were both washed out and the whole of the fibre washer material was finalized in what we called a medium hard red fibre.
Regarding the washer between the float chamber and the base of the body, this is in the medium hard red fibre as mentioned above, and we have not had any measureable trouble with this part for at least the last four years. This washer was occasionally made in Oakenstrong about four years ago and this did give trouble with shrinkage, and this may be the particular case which you mention.
The small red fibre washer which is used on the auxiliary starting jet, has also been completely trouble-free, and if you accepted either of these two washers, we feel sure that this course of action would not be regretted by you.
Yours faithfully,
for THE S.U. CARBURETTER CO.LTD.
B Cooper
