For the attention of Mr. Skinner.

Dear Sirs,

Very many thanks for your letter dated 8th. May.

Regarding the carburetter you mention, supplied on loan, we would like to retain this for the time being for demonstration purposes, and would appreciate being kept fully up to date with any development in this line, as per your recent letter.

With reference to the H.4. carbs. for future Bentley production, there are one or two points about which we are not too happy. These have been mentioned in previous correspondence.

(a) Retaining screws coming loose in the base of the air valve chamber.

(b) Air valve guide (small brass piece rivetted into the throttle body casing, comes loose, and can go into the engine. We had such a case, about a week ago.

(c) Freezing.
This we regard as a serious problem, and the worst feature of the automatic device. It is likely that the rather high velocities, resulting from the unit being fitted to our comparatively large engine, are bringing about a condition much worse than would be found on the smaller engines with which your starter unit is mostly working.
