temperature towards the end of the test rises to 110° centrigrade which you will agree is dangerously near to breaking down point of the oil film.

Thousands of Specialloid Pistons per year have to pass the following test successfully:-

LEYLAND MOTORS LTD.

TEST. PERIOD.
Motor in...................15 minutes.
½ throttle - 900 revs..........30 minutes.
½ throttle - 1,100 revs.........30 minutes.
½ throttle -- 1,300 revs.........30 minutes.
¾ throttle - 1,500 revs.........30 minutes.
Full throttle- 1,600 revs......1 hour.

The Pistons are then dismantled, inspected and re-assembled to the engine and further subjected to tests as follows:-

Full throttle - 1,700 revs....30 minutes.
" " - 1,800 revs....30 minutes.
" " - 1,900 revs....30 minutes.

In addition to the above detailed tests, Specialloid Pistons are supplied and pass successfully through bench and road tests, arranged by the following:-

" Beardmore Motors, Ltd.,
" Crossley Motors, Limited,
" Aston Martin, Ltd.,
" Frazer Nash Cars, Limited,
" Lagondas, Limited, etc.

Recently we had the pleasure of examining a set of Specialloid Pistons dismantled from a Leyland Titantc compression ignition 6-wheeler, operated by the City Bus Co., and we feel sure the result of our examination in relation to the wear figures will be of interest to you.
