X7772. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Left-Handed Chassis. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/EEO.3.30 COPY TO WCR. I should be glad to know what the position is in regard to the demonstration to the American Company's representatives regarding sub-frames. It is now two months since I first wrote on this subject recommending that we carried out a test first of all to satisfy ourselves that the Phantom II car with the sub-frame cut out of action was a satisfactory complete car, and later suggested that we should give their representatives tests with and without the sub-frame in use with a view to demonstrating to them that the right thing for them to do was to follow the English chassis and have the sub-frame. I see in a recent note from Oy. that he is saying that both the experimental chassis should have bodies on sub-frames, and whether or not they decide to use them, they consider that they will have to produce the equivalent of a sub-frame, and I am wondering whether this is sound. What I am anxious to avoid is that the experimental cars should be built in one way and the production cars follow a different practice in regard to the method of attaching the body to the frame.
