"FALCON" ENGINE TWENTY HOUR TEST. We received definite instructions from the Admiralty that a 20 hour endurance test should be taken on the standard production Falcon engines, which was to be in the form of a series test as specially arranged. This test has now been taken, and include the FOUR HOURS NON-STOP RUN BENCH TEST, which gave the following results:- Average H.P. - 208 Petrol Consumption - .511 lbs per H.P.hr. Oil " - .014 " " " SIXTEEN HOUR TEST ON HANGAR. The engine ran satisfactorily for the first 10 hours, after which the plugs gave trouble. Petrol Consumption also increased rapidly. The revs., however, were maintained until the end of the test. K.L.G. plugs were used for this test. Average H.P. - (Revs. 1700) Petrol Consumption - 16.725 gls. per hr. Oil " - .234 " " " On dismantling it was found that the exhaust valve on No. A1 cylinder had burnt badly. | ||
