Several more heads of this type will be loaned to us for test as (b).

These to have 50 cycles of (c) examined and if O.K. returned to production.

(c) Regarding the small valve head which cracked on 4 exhaust seats, also the odd exhaust valved head which has run 200 cycles without cracking these 2 heads should be investigated to find for difference in their performance.

(1) Sections around seats.

(2) From head casting numbers trace any peculiarity of casting or heat treat.

(3) Brinell, Micro photographs and analysis of head in close proximity to seat.

No.5. Test House.

B.60 No.1 Unit.

Remove distributor drive gear for examination (bronze with steel camshaft) assembly decision dependent upon condition.

(a) Check effect of water jets on exhaust valves running open exhaust at 3,000 r.p.m. for power falling off after several minutes prolonged running.

(b) The effect of T.T. type of plugs to be rechecked to ensure that trouble has nothing to do with plugs.

(c) Revert to 6.5 : 1 compression ratio by fitting 2 extra cylinder head gaskets total 3 and again check for trouble at 3,000 r.p.m. Further tests dependent upon results obtained.
