Further to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}10.9.38. No.30. Bed. Wraith III No.1 (a) bed. Unit for comparison of dampers. (a) Take torsional diagrams of crankshaft with alum harmonic damper up to 4500. Above to be set with friction poundage as found most satisfactory with previous steel harmonic damper. Check for gear rattles or any other peculiarities throughout speed range. (b) repeat with original steel harmonic damper. (c) With standard spring drive and damper. Following the above, the unit to be returned to shop for fitment of special liners for bore wear. B.III No.1. Unit now being fitted with camshaft EX.31550 (similar to B.III No.5) and then returned for power comparison with previous tried shafts i.e. Wraith and B.III. The results of the trial on the above shafts to be analysed and a report given. Wraith III No.4. Tests for cylinder head valve seat cracking.
