RE. 20 HP. CHASSIS GAJ-37 - DIRECTOR SCHINDLER.

In reply to your Whr {Mr Wheeler} /Mac {Mr Macintosh} 1/MHA6.1.28.

We are afraid that, so far as the springing of this car is concerned, the position is no better than it was when we wrote our Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} /NRC {N. R. Chandler} 1/MW6.10.27. Because, as pointed out then, we have no record at all of the actual total weight of the car, and our recommendations were only based on the body being as per Coachbuilders estimate, which might be considerably wrong.

We have discussed this matter this afternoon with Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} , and we think that the 800 lb/28% stiffer rear spring referred to in our Memo. would meet the case very well if the total weight of the car corresponds reasonably closely with the Coachbuilders extimate, and we also consider that stronger front springs, (at least 650 lbs) should be fitted.

Both the front springs have been damaged in the accident, but with regard to the rear springs, if new ones are to be fitted, we would require instructions to fit them, and we would also require to know who pays. We also agree with the Experimetal that Hydraulics at the rear would be advantagous, but here again the question of who pays must be settled before we can do anything in the matter.
