DUCKHAM'S OILS.

Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/E.25.11.36., low viscosity lubricating oils have been gaining ground steadily for the last five years. The Americans pioneered their introduction in order to assist them in their starting difficulties; they, of course, have to face temperatures of 20° below zero, or more.

For the last three years, oils thinner than Mobil-arctic have been the standard recommendation for use in the winter on almost all American cars. We ourselves, however, are not going so fast; last year we used Castrol CW and Mobil EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, and this year we are running Arctic on all our Experimental cars.

With regard to Mobil-arctic, we want to be sure that it does not increase engine noise, and oil consumption to an objectionable extent. To do this we have to run it in a number of cars. We do think that under current conditions it reduces cylinder wear and decreases the chances of piston seizure. We shall have to get experience in customers' hands before we get a true value of its merits.
