JACK FOR 20 HP. CAR.

With reference to the criticisms on the Tangye Jack which we propose to standardise for the 20 HP. car. The following are the considered replies to your criticisms from the makers and ourselves :-

(1) The angle of inclination of the handle on this jack is identical to the Michelin and the Dunlop. The makers are against altering this angle, and we do not consider any appreciable gain would be obtained by altering it.

(2) The weight of the handle is 2 lbs. 13 ozs. - it is 3' 6" long. The Dunlop weighs 2 lbs. 10 ozs. and is 3'5" long. The Michelin is 2' 1" long and weighs 2 lbs.

As regards the suggestion to make the handle of tubing. The makers point out that the tube would have to be a bigger section than the present solid one. The actual saving in weight would be very little for a more bulky handle.

(3) It is proposed to modify the joint in the handle. This will be a type similar to the one submitted on the larger size jack which is a definite improvement and which, in our opinion, is equally as good as the Michelin.

(4) The effort required to operate the jack for greater loads than 10 cwts. would be too great for a brace handle. We have previously gone over the advantages of brace and 'T' handles and it was decided in favour of the 'T' handle for Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
